Dr. Bruce Sorkin was born in Brooklyn, NY.  He did his undergraduate work at Stonybrook University graduating in 1981 majoring in Psychology with a minor in Biology.  He graduated Suma Cum Laude with Honors in Psychology and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.  He received his doctorate from the University of Maine in 1986.  He did his Clinical Internship at the Pittsburgh VA Consortium. 

Dr. Sorkin has worked at the University of Pittsburgh initially doing applied clinical research at the Center for Pain Evaluation and Treatment working on NIMH grants with TMJ pain and Back Pain.  He then began working at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center as a Psychologist treating patients in a multidisciplinary center treating patients with various pain complaints including back pain, headache, cancer, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, fibromyalgia, and other problems.  He then worked for Health America as the Clinical Manager of Behavioral Medicine.  He taught for over 15 years at CCAC, CCBC, Penn State University and the University of Pittsburgh,  Dr. Sorkin transitioned from that position to work for Vista Behavioral Health Associates where he worked with a wider range of patients including those with anxiety disorders including phobias, generalized anxiety disorder, and panic disorder.   

Dr. Sorkin’s worked in Private Practice since1993 and focused on the treatment of adults with anxiety disorders, health problems, and mood disorders.  He integrates techniques from different therapy approaches to best help his patients.  These include mindfulness, cognitive therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapies.  Patients are seen both in-person and using telehealth (remotely). 

When he is not working, Dr. Sorkin enjoys running and he has completed the New York, Pittsburgh and Columbus Marathons.  He does woodworking.  He gardens.  He reads extensively and often.  But most of all he enjoys spending time with his favorite people, his son, his daughter and his wife, and of course, his dog Jackson. 

Appointments are available in our offices near Pittsburgh in Robinson Township and via telehealth.
